Nike Announces $650,000 Back
Your Block National Grant Program

BEAVERTON, Ore. (June 30, 2009) – NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE) today announced that its retail division has launched a U.S. based national grant program known as Back Your Block to support community and school groups which aim to unlock the potential of young people through programs that focus on sport. The $650,000 grant program is now accepting applications through August 24, 2009.

Each of Nike’s 175 U.S. retail locations will participate in this year’s program as part of the Company’s commitment to giving back to local communities.

“This represents and excellent opportunity for us to be involved in local communities. We are excited to offer a program where anyone can nominate their favorite organization for a grant and vote on the applicants they feel most passionate about,” stated Kari Mitchell, Senior Manager for Nike Retail Community Relations.

Interested organizations, non-profit, 501(c)3 community and school groups can apply online at www.nikebackyourblock.com. Community members are encouraged to nominate groups that they value, vote on their favorites, and help spread the word about the grant program. Individual retail stores, including nikestore.com, will award the grants in September 2009.

GRANT PROGRAM FACTS:

  • Applicant organizations and nominating or voting individuals can share their activities via social networks such as Facebook and Twitter and encourage their supporters to vote for their program on the Web site.
  • Public support and voting will contribute to the decision making process. Final decisions will be made by the Nike National Grant Selection Committee.
  • Factory stores in Portland, Ore., South Chicago, Ill. and New Orleans, La. are considered “Community Stores.” The Portland Community store will award $100,000 in grants, and South Chicago and New Orleans will each award $50,000.
  • All other stores will award a $2,500 grant to their local organizations.
  • Participating locations include Nike Factory Stores, Nike Towns, Nike Stores, Nike Clearance and Nikestore.com.
