Nike is one of 11 signatories in a recent letter to the US Congress addressing action on climate change. The letter, drafted to urge the US Senate to pass the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act (S. 3036), said the passage of climate change legislation is a top priority.

WWF has been working in conjunction with Nike and the other 11 signatory corporations to reduce their carbon emissions. In the letter to the Senate, the companies declared the following: “The Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008 represents a real effort to establish the regulatory framework that we need. We believe strongly that reducing carbon emissions is not only good policy, it is good business.”

Nike has worked with the WWF since 2001 as part of the Climate Savers program, which establishes ambitious targets to voluntarily reduce Nike’s greenhouse gas emissions. It’s estimated that by 2010, the Climate Savers companies will collectively cut carbon emissions by some 14 million tons annually.
